Cutting of round bars on band saws is the basic method of preparing blanks in a given length for forwarding to further machining. The preparation time for this operation is very important and the efficiency of this process is decisive in mass production. It is also not without significance in the situation of preparing blanks from shafts with large diameters.

In our company, the preparation of materials for machining is carried out in two ways. Shafts with small diameters (up to diameter Φ 80), especially those in the S 355 grade are cut on BOMAR brand STG band saws. For larger series, packet cutting of round bars is used. This allows you to reduce the preparation time. Cutting shafts with larger diameters, i.e. larger than Φ 80 mm, up to diameters of jest 450 mm is carried out on another band saw called PEGAS GONDA type SH. This applies to shafts in various steel-grades – such as 42CrMo4, 145Cr6, X210Cr12, X37CrMoV51. The key procedure in implementing a given grade for cutting is selecting and installing the appropriate cutting band on the band saw.

In our company, for cutting processes of alloy steel grades, we use BAHCO band saw blades from the KING COBRA PQ – 3854 series. This allows for efficient cutting of shafts made of tool steels and bearing steels. The saving of preparation time due to the use of a suitable grade of band with correctly selected pitch can reach several minutes on one cut for large diameter shafts. The operation of cutting from round bars of semi-finished products for further processing is a preparation process, however, it can not be considered as marginal and requires appropriate machine preparation. Ready-made semi-finished products usually undergo subsequent processing, such as turning or milling. An analysis of materials for the cutting process is also required.
For all Pegas and Bomar band saws located in our factory, it is possible to cut profiles or pipes at an angle. This facilitates the prefabrication of elements in the production of steel structures.
