The boom pin is a structural element of the mechanism of the machine. Most often they are used in excavators, loaders, cranes, concrete pumps, lifts, etc. As a rule, the pins are permanently mounted and immobilized in one part of the mechanism, and in the other, they are joined via bearing in the rotating element. In the design of the pin systems in the booms, the key issue is the proper design and location of the joint lubrication. This is done by making lubrication channels and lubrication grooves in the pin (in the case of lubrication through the pin) or in the machine-arm element, pin housing, etc. (in the case of feeding the lubrication system from the opposite side).
From the strength side, it is important to meet the condition of resistance to:
- bending
- shear.
The materials used for their production are closely related to the strength parameters of the pins in the boom systems. The most common are: 42CrMo4, 41Cr4, 30CrNiMo8, 16MnCr5.

In terms of dimensions, the limitation is the total length of the pin and its diameter. It may be up to a maximum diameter of about 250 mm. However, the maximum length of the pin should not exceed 1000 mm.
