Kinematic elements of the boom arms

The kinematic elements of the boom arms are related to the work of the boom arm drive system. The arms of many construction machines and working machines, such as booms in concrete pumps, excavator arms, loader arms, booms for basket lifts, some structures of truck crane arms and others have the structure of flat or spatial lever mechanisms.

Kinds of kinematic elements of boom arms.

When the arms are driven by hydraulic cylinders, in order to perform a rotational movement with specific geometrical assumptions, they must be driven indirectly through the lever kinematic elements. Such elements meet the conditions consistent with the principles of the theory of machines and mechanisms. We can distinguish three basic elements due to the number of nodes in individual members:

  • 2-node – pushers or driving yokes;
  • 3-node – kinematic triangles;
  • 4-node – kinematic quadrilaterals.

The production of kinematic elements of the arms is carried out on the basis of individual documentation and is fully dependent on the type of boom arm structure. We distinguish structures:

  • straight pushers in the form of push rods ending on both sides with a joint (socket);
  • yokes geometrically adapted to the construction of the boom, ended with a joint on both sides;
  • flat elements of kinematics with the construction of kinematic polygons;
  • spatial elements of kinematics with the construction of kinematic polygons.
